She Keeps Bees

When She Keeps Bees, that is Jessica Larrabee and Andy LaPlant, enter a stage, it’s obvious that this couple shares a very special connection: For nearly ten years the now couple have been playing music together, that they mostly recorded at home. Recently they released record number three, the phenomenal „Eight Houses”, that’s built on minimalistic drums, some heavier and some more quiet guitar riffs, complemented by gloomy piano lines and horn sections. In combination with Jess Larrabees melancholic voice, that wonderfully trembles in just the right moments, this record is simply haunting and we feel like we found just the perfect spot and moment for the band to play some songs for us.

Feeling lightyears away from all the traffic and noise down at busy Karl-Marx-Straße in Neukölln, we met Jess and Andy at one of the most idyllic places in the middle of the metropolitan jungle of Berlin: Klunkerkranich, a rooftop garden and cultural space on top of a shopping mall that normally attracts sun worshippers and lovers of the better things in life — good drinks, good music and of course a spectacular view all over Berlin.

With nothing but a couple of clouds and the sound of rain tenderly drumming raindrops on the roof of our little dry shelter, She Keeps Bees played a stunning performance of „Radiance“ and a fully acoustic version of „Both Sides“ for us.

If you like what you hear and see, there’s still a couple of options to see She Keeps Bees live on their current tour:
